Dear Colleagues, 

I have the pleasure and honour of announcing the 109th Congress of the Italian Society of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery which, as planned, will be held from 24 to 27 May 2023. The annual Congress that I have the privilege of presiding is approaching, however, with an important novelty: the event will take place in Milan at the Allianz MiCo Congress Center instead of in Bologna. The move, independent of our will, was necessary due to the very recent decision of the Municipality of Bologna to move all the activities of the theater season to the exhibition center, where our event had been scheduled for some time, in order to start the redevelopment works of the Municipal Theater.

We are sorry for this inconvenience that has taken us all by surprise in the last few days. Fortunately, the prestigious Milan venue has become available and the organizational machine with promptness and flexibility has already been activated for all the consequent aspects.

That said, nothing changes compared to the original project, mainly oriented towards innovation, young people, translational and precision medicine and the optimization of diagnosis and treatment pathways. The Congress will cover all the subspecialties of our discipline and, with different formats, space will be given to training, debate and consensus on controversial topics as well as clinical and basic research.

The Official Report, edited by Marco Benazzo, will be entitled "Diagnosis and treatment of non-neoplastic relapses in otolaryngology". The Institutional Round Table, curated by Maria Gabriella Rugiu and Angelo Camaioni, on the other hand, is on "The new role of the otolaryngologist in the management of the thyroid nodule".

However, your participation and your contributions will, as always, constitute the real backbone of the Congress and I am sure that we will once again demonstrate the richness and quality of the Italian Otolaryngology.

Together with the Honorary Presidents Angelo Caroggio and Michele De Benedetto, my unforgettable Masters, and the Scientific Secretariat, we look forward to your qualified contribution and your participation in what aims to be a modern Congress, oriented towards the future of our discipline.
